with Matthew Povey
This session provides a clear and accessible introduction to Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT), focusing on its applications within counselling, psychotherapy, and clinical supervision. Participants will explore the foundations of MBT, its role in strengthening therapeutic relationships, and its relevance to working with complex presentations. Practical examples will illustrate how MBT principles can be integrated into both individual and group practice, while current and emerging developments in the field will also be discussed.
Presented by Matthew Povey, a social worker and counsellor with over 16 years of professional experience, this workshop draws on his extensive background supporting vulnerable young people, adolescents, and families with diverse and often complex needs. Matthew has worked as a Clinical Lead across multiple programs, contributed to trauma recovery efforts following the 2019 bushfires, and held roles within the Department of Education Victoria.
Now working in private practice at Riverina Counselling, Matthew provides therapy, assessment, and supervision, with specialist services including autism spectrum disorders, trauma and personality issues, and psychosocial disability. His attachment-focused and relational approach underpins his therapeutic work, making him well placed to guide participants in understanding and applying MBT.
This workshop equips counsellors, social workers, and other mental health professionals with practical tools and insights into MBT, supporting both client outcomes and professional growth.
This Workshop is included in the award winning CCC membership, the most cost effective CPD membership in Australia.
