With Dr Iona Abrahamson
Join Dr. Iona Abrahamson, an experienced psychotherapist with a wealth of expertise in relationship counselling, for an insightful workshop titled Navigating the Complexities of Infidelity Counselling. Dr. Abrahamson holds a BA in Psychology, a Master of Counselling (Honours), and a PhD, specialising in helping individuals and couples through relationship difficulties, grief and loss, infidelity, and more.
This workshop will delve into the emotionally charged and complex nature of infidelity counselling, an area that many therapists find challenging and yet vital for their practice. Contemporary research shows infidelity’s significant impact on relationships, often leading individuals and couples to seek professional help. While this type of counselling is crucial, many therapists feel unprepared for the emotional strain it can cause, which makes it especially important for professionals to understand the deeper emotional labour involved.
Dr. Abrahamson will guide participants through the lived experience of working with families affected by infidelity, linking theoretical frameworks to practical approaches. Using a narrative inquiry perspective, she will introduce participants to the ethical challenges therapists face and explore the concept of emotional labour (as defined by Hochschild, 1983/2003), helping therapists navigate their own emotions while supporting their clients.
Incorporating real-world examples, including the compassionate guidance Dr. Abrahamson’s own grandmother, Barbara, offered in her personal life, this workshop offers valuable insights for professionals at any stage of their careers. Whether you're a student or an established therapist, this workshop provides a unique understanding of infidelity counselling, offering essential tools for helping clients rebuild and heal after betrayal.
This Workshop is included in the award winning CCC membership, the most cost effective CPD membership in Australia.
