with Dr Dale Jones
Presented by Dr. Dale Jones, a physiotherapist with 30 years of experience since graduating from the University of Queensland, this insightful session draws on her extensive expertise in pelvic floor dysfunction for women, men, and children. Dr. Jones specialises in the management of urinary and faecal incontinence, vaginal and rectal prolapse, persistent pelvic pain, and sexual dysfunction. Recognising the significant emotional complexities that often accompany these conditions, she also completed a Master’s in Counselling, enabling her to provide a more holistic and compassionate service to the women she works with.
In this presentation, Dr. Jones explores the question: “Women after childbirth – are they beautiful, broken, or can they be both?” While Australia has developed strong awareness and screening practices for postnatal depression, this session highlights the broader spectrum of mental health concerns that can arise following childbirth. Dr. Jones discusses the psychological impact of childbirth beyond depression, with particular focus on decreased genital self-image and the influence of birth-related trauma on a woman’s sense of self.
This session invites attendees to expand their understanding of postnatal experiences, acknowledging both the physical and psychological dimensions of recovery. By raising awareness of these often-overlooked issues, Dr. Jones encourages professionals to better support women in navigating the complex interplay between physical health, emotional wellbeing, and identity after childbirth.
