With Tracey Milson
Presented by Tracey Milson, an experienced counsellor and therapist with over 20,000 hours of counselling experience in private practice and as a subcontractor for three EAP providers, this informative session provides a detailed exploration of note-taking for counselling professionals. Tracey now dedicates a significant portion of her work to professional supervision, including group supervision and the supervision of supervisors, bringing a deep understanding of clinical and ethical practices.
This session focuses on the critical role of accurate, ethical, and legally sound documentation in therapeutic work. Tracey guides participants through best practices in legal and ethical note-taking, emphasising how to accurately record information that reflects the counsellor’s overall care for the client. The session highlights how to prepare for subpoenas, the importance of client consent and confidentiality, and how to use non-diagnostic language in reports and correspondence.
Special attention is given to working with couples or families, where the complexity of record-keeping increases, and where sensitivity and clarity are crucial. Attendees will also explore real-world examples of case notes to illustrate appropriate structure and content.
With practical guidance on storing notes securely, using password-protected or locked files, this workshop equips counsellors with the skills and confidence to document their work ethically, professionally, and in line with best practice standards.
This Workshop is included in the award winning CCC membership, the most cost effective CPD membership in Australia.
